Healthy(ish) Cocktail: Ruby Red RoseMerry Cocktail

Rose-MERRY... get it?! This rosemary and Ruby Red grapefruit cocktail is sure to get you in the Christmas SPIRIT. Ok, we’re done with the puns now. Promise.

We love a good, healthy spin on cocktails, and this one is no different. It’s refreshing and tasty, yet not packed with sugar or any heavy ingredients. Egg nog can step aside, ‘cause this is much better (and stronger) in our opinion. You can also search “cocktail” on our blog to get other healthy-ish recipes, like our Boozy Booch Kombucha Cocktail . Alcohol does a good enough job on its own of making us feel crappy when we’ve had too much; we don’t need sugar or syrups or cream added to the mix to make us feel even worse the next day. And on that note...

Pro tip: Take two activated charcoal capsules before bed after a night of drinking. It tends to reduce the severity of the hangover, due to the theorized capabilities of charcoal to absorb toxins and aid your body in eliminating them. We like the Bulletproof brand coconut charcoal.

The Grapefruit and elderflower in this pink drink go amazing together, plus the rosemary garnish adds some extra flavor and festive flair. Kinda like there’s a little piece of Christmas tree in your cup, ya know? We made this cocktail with Deep Eddy Ruby Red grapefruit vodka (their vodkas don’t include a ton of added sugar or weird dyes, and they use actual grapefruit). If you don’t have access to Deep Eddy, you could try another brand of grapefruit vodka, or you can use unflavored vodka. Gin would go nicely in this cocktail too, as it compliments elderflower liquor really well.

Ingredients:

2 shots of Deep Eddy Ruby Red vodka (or other graprefruit vodka, plain vodka, or gin)

1 shot elderflower liqueur (St. Germain or St. Elder)

Juice of 1/2 grapefruit

Juice of 1/2 lemon

Splash of sparkling water (I.e. lemon LaCroix)

Sprig of rosemary for garnish

Instructions

1. Pour all ingredients together into a shaker with ice.

2. Shake.

3. Strain and pour into a glass.

4. Garnish with a sprig of rosemary.

* May also make a larger batch for parties and store in a pitcher with several rosemary sprigs soaking for a couple of hours in the fridge for more rosemary flavor.
